Municipal Center of the Arts
The Muncipal center of the arts opened its doors on November 6th in 1989, as an answer of the local autorithies to the demand of people to learn and to develop artistics skills , since childhood to ripeness.
In its beginnins, the MCA had academia courses in two buildings. It was conformed by clasic ballet class, paiting class, sculpture class and music school “Enrique Patron Rueda”. Once passed a year , the Song School waas established living to the city of Mazatlán two importants icons in Sinaloense Music , the choir “Angela Peralta” and youthful sinfonic orchestra.
On 1993, The artistic activities schools, which depended at that time of cultural diffusion, were concentrated in its new offices, near from Angela Peralta Theaterl . There was when the born of Municipal Center of Arts. This meant the consolidation of shools and its definite root, counting with a ample endorsment at local leve, state and national.The new Municipal Center of the Arts extended its cover of artistic areas, getting to count, in addition to the schools of music and classic ballet, with the factories of folkloric ballet, plastic arts, theater, cinema, Literature. From the educational workings products of quality like the choirs infantile and the "Ángela Peralta" arose, the Regional Band and Youthful the Symphony orchestra.
In the following years, the institutional consolidation took to the profesionalization of the School of Music and to the creation of the Professional School of Contemporary Dance. Later, the professional level in the School of Song became serious. This way, at the present time three degrees in the Municipal Center of the Arts of Mazatlán are distributed.
The permanent participation of the CMA (by its Spanish meaning) in cultural and social events, as well as their excellent academic level, locates it like one of the best educative institutions in the region within the artistic scope.
The Building
The building where the Municipal Center of the Arts works is one of the more important sites of historical interest of the city. In the estate that occupies today one of the first inns worked that were in Mazatlán. "Exchange Bank" was called. Later it was residence of the family of Don Blond Manuel, industralist who commanded to construct the annexed theater to the property. While it constructed the theater colossus, Blond it rustically mounted a called theater "Of the Town" in the patios of this property. Later, the large house was sold by the widow of Blonde and it became Iturbide Hotel.
In August of 1883, in fourth number 10 of the hotel, it passed away the diva Ángela Peralta, "the Mexican ruiseñor", the most important soprano than it has given the country. She was victim of the epidemic of yellow fever, that arrived at Mazatlán in the same boat in which it arrived the Italian company of opera directed by the artist. To fifteen minutes of its death, according to it was based in the corresponding act, the singer contracted nuptials "in I articulate mortis" with its artistic representative and sentimental companion, Mr. Julian Montiel. This fact gave to origin to a mazatleca legend relative to the presumed distribution of jewels of the diva between the husband, the judge and the witnesses, as origin of fortunes and misfortunes.
At the end of century XIX, in the second plant of this building the Casino of Mazatlán had its seat. There elite met daily . While, in the ground floor, offices and businesses of diverse nature were installed.
In 1965 the construction served like mechanical factory. In him, Don Miguel Ramirez Urquijo created in 1965 the "Pulmonías", peculiar units of public transport mounted originally in own tricycles for the transfer of people within the golf courses, and that, with time, became tourist symbol of our port.
From 1993 the Municipal Center of the Arts of the City council of Mazatlán settled here.
